For a while now my favourite place to get excellent coffee has been Michel's Patisserie. There are franchises in different areas and they are probably all a little bit different but I would highly recommend the couple I have been to, especially the one at the Kardinya Park Shopping Centre.
Even though the food is great the coffee is the real star of this establishment. Michel's Patisserie has award winning coffee, winning among other things, The Choice Magazine Best Tasting Coffee in 2010 and the Coffee Shop of the Year in 2011. The smooth velvety coffee is surpassed by none. Their cappuccino in particular is consistently good, rich, not too milky, and really smooth with no bitter taste.
This particular Saturday morning my friend and I ordered our morning tea and grabbed a table. A cappuccino and a chocolate éclair for me and a cappuccino with a caramel shot and a sausage roll for my friend soon arrived and we were not disappointed. The chocolate éclair and the sausage roll were so good we ended up sharing them both, and as always the coffee was perfect.
If you stop by for a coffee you should also sample some of their lovely cakes. Choose from an assortment of fresh cake slices that are available or perhaps you would prefer a slice, tart, pastry, cupcake or muffin.
A variety of hot foods are also offered, such as pies, quiches and sausage rolls which are excellent for a snack or a quick lunch on the go and they are extremely tasty.
Along with the usual coffee styles, cappuccino, mocha, espresso, latte and macchiato they also do a very cute Babycino and for those who prefer a cold drink fruit smoothies, milkshakes, chillas and iced coffees and made to order.
The prices are fairly reasonable too. A cappuccino is $3.80 or they have a daily coffee and cake combo special for just $5.90.
Michel's Patisserie has a large range of take home cakes to suit even the pickiest of customers. Their fresh whole cakes are delicious and include such treats as Black Forest Gateau, Chocolate Mud Cake, Strawberry Cheesecake, Fresh Sponge Cakes and Banana Caramel Tart. There are lots of others to choose from, they can even make up special orders, and they are great for birthdays or other special occasions. Prices vary depending on which type of cake you choose.
My only grizzle, if I had to have one, is that the tables and chairs are set up in the mall area instead of in a dedicated shop. There is not a lot of room between them and as Michel's Patisserie is very popular the tables are snapped up quickly.
So for the best cappuccino and cake around, dine in or take away, check out Michel's Patisserie.
