Owned by Luke Parrella, Coco Flamingo was the result of traveling experiences around the East Coast of Australia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Coco Flamingo opened their doors to the public mid-December 2018 and since then, it has quickly gained popularity as one of the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants to break into the Adelaide food scene.
Look out for whitewashed furniture with beachy add-ons outside and prepare to be amazed by what awaits you within. The cafe is small, but cosy and inviting to accommodate up to 20-24 people at a time.
Inside, the space has been craftily fitted with all the boho accessories that have been sourced from Byron Bay, such as oversized straw hats, calming artworks of the ocean and palm trees, breeze blocks that cleverly divide the dining area from the cooking station, and an inviting nook (towards the end of the café) that is adorned in silky cushions and throw rugs over wicker lounges.

Adding a sense of a tropical escape, local artist Nicky Create has decorated the entrance space with her beautiful and vibrant nature-inspired mural, with tones of bright and dark green leaves and trees that are splashed against a flamingo pink backdrop. The space is also equipped with 3 cane swings, where undoubtedly, a lot of friends and couples have already successfully saturated Instagram with their swing selfies and taken full advantage of this Insta-worthy space of the café.
With a high focus on providing meals that are not only delicious, but also tick the boxes for the health-conscious, Coco Flamingo's menu is packed with a range of options that can be classified as "wholesome" and "nourishing", in addition to delivering effectively on presentation and taste. Most dietary requirements, including vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free, are offered here, so rest assured you will be able to find something on the menu that will cleverly tease your palates with healthy yet delicious ingredients that are whipped together to create a tantalizing meal.
Pick up a menu and you'll find mouthwatering options of fresh juices, smoothies, hot beverages (coffee / tea), savoury options, and sweet options. There are tons of healthy options that equally deliver in taste as they do in nourishment - coffee by local roasters SOHO, kombucha by local legends MOJO, fresh cold-pressed juices by Coco Jumbo, and sweet and savoury options that are made using ingredients that are primarily sourced locally from around South Australia.
On a particularly warm day, a friend and I ventured into the café that had attracted so much hype and live up to the hype it did!
For food, I had the Waffle Bowl, which is a vegan-friendly protein waffle bowl that comes with organic coyo (coconut yoghurt), fresh seasonal fruit (strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, orange, apple, banana, and passionfruit) and edible flowers. While it took me a solid minute to realize that the bowl was, in fact, the waffle, it was a thoroughly pleasing meal that brought all the candies of nature together in one magnificent meal. The coyo was something that I had never tried before, but it complemented the citrus and fresh flavours of the fruit so well.
My friend opted for a savoury option, being the toasted sourdough sandwich. Packed with wonderful ingredients such as roasted pumpkin, spinach, enoki mushrooms, and cheese, which was topped off with pesto sauce, the sandwich was wholesome and ticked all the boxes on taste, presentation, and nutrition.
The peanut butter smoothie bowl was another big hit for the taste buds. A creamy combination of peanut butter, banana slices, and chocolate shavings provided with a thoroughly satisfying and filling meal, not to mention that it also presented with a beautiful balance of sweet and salty. While it can be a challenge to finish the meal, given how rich, creamy, and heavy it is, it is a great idea to share it among friends and simultaneously try an additional dish from the menu!
For drinks, we had freshly squeezed orange juice that is sourced by local legends Coco Jumbo (you can also find them in Topham Mall) and we also had the Grass is Greener smoothie, which is packed with all the healthy treats of nature - just what we needed to cool off on a particularly humid day in Adelaide!
