Bellini's 'St. Francis in the Desert'


St. Francis in the Desert may well be the masterpiece of Italian Renaissance master Giovanni Bellini. It took him approximately 5 years, starting in 1475 and completing around 1480.

It is currently displayed prominently in the Frick Collection.

This premier museum and research center located in New York City is best known for its distinguished Old Master paintings and outstanding examples of European sculpture and decorative arts.

As the Frick is closed to public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Xavier F. Salomon, Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator of the Frick is offering a free virtual curation of this marvelous piece.
