Goldfish lounge isn't your traditional cocktail of Kings Cross debauchery. Situated across the road from the famous Coca-Cola sign, this upmarket venue is all about drinking well in comfort. Not afraid to be a little quirky, the space is furnished with giant ottomans, long bench seats, and an army of throw pillows. The beverage menu is scattered with quotes from the 1988 film Cocktail, including one that says, "The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got". The drink choices run for 18 pages, so the last part is definitely applicable.
So what do they do with their liquor? Combine it with all sorts of diverse ingredients. The Pomegranate and Tahitian Lime Fizz is a mix of vodka, pomegranate liqueur, and lime syrup shaken with egg white, lemon juice and soda. Although it's a touch sweet, the flavours complement each other well. For a smoother drink try the Istanbul Old Iced Tea. This combines gin, Cointreau, elderflower cordial, lemon juice, cucumber pieces, and Turkish apple tea. Old classics aren't overlooked, but they are given a little twist. Martinis are served with a shot of espresso, Manhattans are balanced with maple syrup, and your mother's favourite mix of Pimm's and lemonade is infused with fruit and mint. Unfortunately, this beverage flamboyance does mean that you have to be patient when waiting for your order. Muddling cucumbers and swizzling soda isn't as simple as pouring a schooner of tap beer.
Like many Sydney venues the cocktail prices aren't exactly economical and most drinks are priced between $14 and $18. Unlike many venues, however, you'll actually feel like you're getting bang for your buck. If you head there between 6pm and 8pm Sunday to Friday you'll even receive 49% off all food and beverage.
If you're looking for fancy drinks and with a shot of fun then Goldfish is the place for you.
This looks like a really swanky place, I'd love to give it a visit some time. Those cocktails also sound to die for! I'm actually a huge lover of Pimms, so you pretty much sold me with that. I'm also loving the sound of the maple syrup Manhattan. I agree that prices are a bit steep, but this place does seem like the type of place where it feels worth it. Thanks for the review, can't wait to give it a go someday.
Oh and I also had to add that I love the name Goldfish, such a fun unique name. That is the main reason I clicked on the review in the first place, and now I feel like I just have to go there. It does seem like a great midweek drink spot with those specials from Sunday-Friday, I'm looking forward to giving it a go.
