Zeus Street Greek at South Bank is one of my favourite Greek restaurants in Brisbane. They combine classic traditional Greek food with dishes that innovate to keep with the times. In June they launched a number of new menu items along with a cocktail menu at the bar.

Zeus Street Greek has six locations around Australia, with most being in New South Wales, and one in Brisbane. However it is in Brisbane where they are innovating and launching new products to keep pace with the rapidly changing tastes of Brisbanites.

The basic items from the grill (or souvla) include chicken, pork or lamb. For some flavour you want to seek out the dips, including beetroot hummus, fish roe dip, spicy feta and taztaziki. The sides are also excellent, with sweet feta filo fingers and calamari being among my favourites. All great classic Greek or Greek inspired food.

For something a little innovative you have to go for pitas and salads. The papou niko is Zeus Street Greek's signature pita with chicken or pork, coleslaw, caramelised onion and mayonnaise. To complement these classic flavours there are innovative pitas like The Athenian, which is a combination of mustard relish, chips and beef meatballs. While not my favourite, this is something relish and pickle lovers will want to try. The pitas are perfect for delivery or takeaway. They certainly make a nice value for money lunch as do the various salads.

The cocktail menu is also worth trying out. You can enjoy a drink with a meal or maybe with a share platter or snack plate such as the calamari.

Cocktails cover the broad range of sweet through to sour with a sweet and sour option. Mextaxa Fig is one of the best sour cocktails I have tried, the Mastic Mule is deliciously sweet (though I personally avoid more than one sweet drink in a night). Poseidon's Punch combines both sweet and sour. The Maria Rose combines rose syrup and Mezcal (a type of Mexican style tequila) to create a delicately flavoured drink that will knock you off your feet.

Zeus Street Greek has definitely made me fall in love with Greek food again with both their classics and new dishes. Having tried their pitas, I know this is a great place for lunch in South Bank, both eat in and takeaway. With cocktails on the menu it has now become a place to start, or maybe end, a great night out.
