In recent years, Canberra has really improved its food and bar scene. There are now so many options available and the hardest decision you need to make is deciding which bar to try next! So here are five great options to start with.
My favourite cocktail at Molly's
This definitely one of the best prohibition-style speakeasy bars in Canberra. The best part is the little adventure of finding the place, but it's worth the effort because as soon as you open the door, it's like you've stepped into another world.
35°16'44.5"S 149°07'42.0"E. Open Mon to Wed 4pm-midnight | Thurs to Sat 4pm-2am
Hippo co is another great whiskey and cocktail bar tucked away in the heart of Canberra. This cosy little American-themed bar has an ever-changing list of cocktails as well as a collection of over 250 amazing whiskeys. It also has live music on Wednesdays and whiskey tasting sessions every Thursday!
1/17 Garema Pl. Open Monday – Thursday 5pm – Late | Friday 4pm – Late | Saturday 5pm – Late
Situated on the sixth level of the Rex Hotel is the Howling Moon rooftop bar. The bar offers 180-degree views of Canberra along with mouth-watering snacks and delicious cocktails. The perfect place to wind down and watch the sunset.
150 Northbourne Ave. Open Wed - Sat 4pm – Late | Sun 12pm - 9pm
The speakeasy concept is something that continues to work in Canberra and it has been used successfully again here at Lucky's. The bar is dimly light with old Chester couches placed around the room and 1920s photos decorate the walls, giving the place a real 1920's feel. The cocktails are appropriately named and of course, delicious.
This bright and breezy cocktail bar is named after the travel route that popped up after probation in America and would take the rich to Cuba to enjoy a cocktail or more! And walking into this place makes you feel like you have for a holiday and with over 300 different types of rum, there is sure to be a drink for everyone!
Level 1 82 Alinga Street. Open Tues - Wed 4pm to 12am | Thur - Fri 4pm to 3am | Sat 4pm to 12am
