Food and words.

Cockles aren't usually considered one of seafood's best delicacies, but Cockles Cafe is certainly a good choice for a tasty bite to eat. Located on the corner of Port Elliot's two main streets, this is a popular place for locals and visitors. Cockles Cafe is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, or just a spot of coffee.

Start your day off with something interesting with the Cockles Cafe breakfast menu. They open at 7:30am, so you can be there bright an early to eat your fill. Simple favourites like eggs on toast are given a special touch with a homemade tomato relish, and there are plenty of other egg combos to choose from. The Pan is an interesting choice, its a whole breakfast thrown together and baked in one ceramic pan. It is tasty and filling, and a great way to kick-start the morning.

For something sweeter, try the fluffy two stack pancakes. You could be simple and go for some topped with maple syrup and vanilla ice cream, or add some crispy bacon for that American touch. The crowning glory would have to be the two stack pancakes topped with raspberry compote and toasted coconut; a fresh mix of flavours perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.

At lunch time you can choose from a range of salads, seafood, pasta and more. The meals are generous in size, so if you're looking for something filling, this could be the place to stop. Sit outdoors and you can spend some time watching Port Elliot life go on down North Terrace or The Strand.

Throughout the day you can also choose from a range of cakes and tarts, and other sweet treats like macarons. They do a great coffee, but you might also like to try a milkshake or a pot of tea. There is a bit of everything on offer.

During the lunch hour Cockles compete with plenty of other Port Elliot businesses, all who do some great meals, but at breakfast it is hard to go past this corner cafe. Cockles is open from 7:30am till 4pm 7 days a week. For more you can also follow them on Facebook.
