View from the top of the Cockatoo Island, you'll be able to grasp a bird's eye view of the caisson, which is a floating iron dock gate barrier that keeps the water out.

Fitzroy Dock was Australia's first dry dock and was built for the Royal Navy from 1847-1857 mostly by convicts. Additionally, the Fitzroy Dock is fitted with the caisson to regulate the water level within the dock.

It's actually Australia's second dry dock. Even though this started construction first, Mort's Dock in Balmain was completed first.
