With the New Year's holidays behind us and Song Khran a few months from now, my wife and I settled into our regular routine in Chaing Mai. While I love the mountains and the energy of Chiang Mai, we longed for the beaches and the sun of southern Thailand. We made plans for a getaway to the south and searched for a holiday resort on Koh Yao Noi. We looked at a lot of Koh Yao Noi hotels until we came across a tranquil little holiday resort on the east side of Koh Yao Noi which offered us a five-star holiday experience.
Coastal Escape is a boutique resort that offers a small secluded facility with the latest in amenities. When we went online; the reviews about the resort were glowing with Trip Advisor giving it its very best rating. Coastal Escape lived up to its reputation. It was perfect blend of an idyllic island paradise with the luxury of a world class resort. It offered every convenience you would want while leaving you free to revel in the tranquility the island still offers.
First, let me give you a little background about Koh Yao Noi. As the name implies, Koh Yao Noi is the smaller of a pair of islands in the bay of Phang Nga Bay on the west coast of Thailand. Situated a short boat ride from Phuket and Krabi, Ko Yao Noi feels so far removed from its more bustling neighbors. While only a boat ride away from the glitz and glitter that is Phuket, Ko Yao Noi is still relatively undeveloped. Koh Yao Noi has gone to great efforts to maintain its traditional way of life for which it was awarded the World Legacy Award for Destination Stewardship from Conservation International and National Geographic Traveler.
Getting to our Koh Yao Noi accommodation couldn't have been easier. We left Chiang Mai in the morning and were comfortable enjoying a cocktail at the resort. Bangkok Airline and Thai Airline, along with other major carriers, have nonstop flights from Chiang Mai to Phuket all day long. If you want to explore Phuket first, this guide is useful. Your flight will take little more than two hours. Once we landed at Phuket, Coastal Escape was there to greet us and whisked us away to our accommodations. The trip starts with a 25 minute shuttle ride from the airport to the Pier at Bang Rong on the east side of Phuket. The one-hour journey departs from Phuket several times daily and makes a short stop at Koh Yao Yai before continuing on to Koh Yao Noi.

The exclusive Koh Yao Noi resort at Coastal Escape was exactly what we were looking for. We were immediately struck by the quality of the facilities and the attention to detail from the beautiful landscaping to the pampered care we were treated to. While we mainly came south to recharge our batteries, we found that there was plenty to see and explore. Coastal Escape took care of making all our arrangements for whatever we wanted to do on the island.
The complex consisted of four uniquely designed villas, each with two spacious bedrooms with private baths and a patio that opens up on the bay. Each villa also comes fully furnished with a large living room with flat-screen TV and a totally equipped kitchenette (While you can relax and fix your own meals if that is to your liking, we found that resort's culinary offerings were top-notch).
Coastal Escape also comes wired with fibre optics for the fastest internet for your convenience. The villas are arranged around a central terrace giving each villa a perfect view of the limestone cliffs that populate Phang Nga Bay.
The central terrace is the crown jewel with a signature pool that allows you to soak your cares away as you stare off into the island's Marine Park. Or take advantage of their excellent spa services to relax and unwind. Afterward top off the evening with exquisite pool-side dining from their world-class staff.
