Having been here as a child on a family outing, this was the first time revisiting Coal Creek mining town. It is now a tourist information centre with Coal Creek community town and museum. All run and funded by volunteers.

I remember the black steam engine and train, along with the coal mines and historic pioneer village. As you wonder and explore through the town, buildings have been restored and opened for visitors to view the vintage items on display.

Entry is free and I encourage making a donation, as money is needed for the upkeep and maintenance of the buildings. This is a wonderful place to explore for the whole family without the expensive or crowds of Sovereign Hill.

Allow at least 2 hours to explore the village, including the Upper and Bottom railway stations and the huge water wheel and lake. Every second Saturday of every month, they host an artisan and craft market in the Coal Creek foyer.

Step back in time and explore the collection of artefacts housed in a village-like setting. Enjoy traditional handmade sweets in the General Store, ride the bush tramway, hang out by the lake or simply enjoy the natural bush surround.
