Writers, warm up your pens. Coal Creek is hosting the Coal Creek Literary Festival, The Magic of Words on Saturday 3rd October 2015.



The main event is the Bert van Bedaf Memorial Award for the best short story. Named in his honour, Bert van Bedaf helped establish the Coal Creek Literary Festival 8 years ago. This category now attracts entries from all over Australia and has a $500 cash prize.

Past winners can be viewed on the Coal Creek Literary Festival web site. This category has a $15 entry fee.

Other categories include an Open Poetry section (open to all ages). Entry in this category is $10 for a chance to win $200.

Open Picture Book Illustrated (open to all ages). Entry in this category is $10 for a chance to win $100.

Under-18's are also encouraged to enter with the Under-18 Picture Book Photo and Under-18 Picture Book Illustrated sections. Entry is $5 for a chance to win $100.

Entry forms and style guidelines can be downloaded from the Coal Creek Literary Festival web site or collected from Coal Creek, Korumburra.

The Coal Creek Literary Festival features a large number of highly esteemed, special guest speakers. Published authors, including Honey Brown, Carrie Maya, David Tattersall, Charles Hall, Nicole Hayes, Jacqueline Dinan, Hoa Pham and Sandi Wallace will speak in the auditorium throughout the day, concluding with a panel discussion at 4.15pm.

The Festival opens at 11am. As this is a special event day entry fees apply. $10 adult. $8 concession. $5 Under-16. The day concludes at 5pm.

On non-event days, entry to Coal Creek is FREE.

There are BBQ facilities in the carpark, along with an onsite licensed café restaurant. Alternatively, throw down a picnic blanket and bring along a basket of treats.

Coal Creek is located at 12 Silkstone Road, Korumburra (South Gippsland Highway).
