For over twelve months now Miss 8, Master 7 and I have been attending the Clunes Open House Dinners. Held every Tuesday from 6pm at the local Town Hall, this respite from a night of cooking gives me a chance to sit, stop and enjoy.
The food is fantastic, and covers off the requirements of this picky gluten-free, vegetarian mum, while also catering for those who enjoy a meatier dish.
Last week it was a mushroom tagine with warm vegetable salad, roast pumpkin and potato! (I'm drooling on the keyboard just remembering it.)
Tomorrow it's an eggplant moussaka. Master 7 will pick out the eggplant and then negotiate for a second helping of desserts. Miss 8 will beg the volunteers behind the counter for the recipe, so I can make it at home.
For me, the best aspect of the dinners is a chance to socialise, catch up with old friends, make some new ones. In a small town isolation can be a problem. Having a chance to chat about the weather, hear stories of the latest lambs or just shoot the breeze, is a small moment of bliss in a hectic week.
