Cluedo! The Interactive Game
Fri 19 May 2017
Take a little bit of the locked-room puzzle-solving, a touch of immersive theatre, and a fantastic excuse to go for a sail on the Kookaburra Queen and what have you got? , that's what. An unquestionable highlight of this year's Anywhere Theatre Festival program, this ambitious undertaking ticks all boxes of what a fun night out should be.
Set in the 1930s, the live version of the board game classic will feature cast members entwined with the crowd, as those in attendance use their cunning to find the clues which will help solve the case. The dress code is smart casual, though audience members are encouraged to dress the part to get the most out of the experience and for a good excuse to look fabulous.
Immersive theatre hasn't had the same attention in Brisbane as it does in bigger cities, such as London or New York where events like Secret Cinema or You Me Bum Bum Train sell out within minutes of going on sale. Combining the event with a problem-solving aspect which is proving ever more popular with more and more locked rooms opening around the city, and you wonder why the combination hasn't come together earlier.
The fact that the whole thing takes place on the Kookaburra Queen is the cherry on the cake. With a delicious seasonal contemporary buffet included within the ticket price which is a mere $20 than the regular Kookaburra Queen price, you'd be a fool not to use this event as an excuse to board the iconic vessel.
With the cruise lasting three hours, you'll have more than enough time to take in the sights along the riverside between your clue hunting. There'll even be a live jazz / swing band to give you to tear the dancefloor up with a little charleston and make you forget what year it is. Who knows, there may even be an impromptu guest performance from Professor Plum or Colonel Mustard, if they're still alive at that point...
The format is simple enough to be enjoyed by everyone and it's great to see Brisbane theatre pushing the boundaries of entertainment. Sure to be the most exciting theatrical event to hit Brisbane in living memory, perhaps ever.
