Tucked away down a side street in Newmarket is the Brisbane City Football Club. We had been associated with this Football (soccer variety) club for about 5 years when our son played football here. He has since moved onward and upward.
Last week we ended up back here watching him play against his old club. We also discovered that the bar and canteen here at Brisbane City has been renovated and the bar area improved.

Clubhouse Bar and Canteen
We thought that it would be a good idea to have a pre-game drink and bite to eat before watching our son play his game.
The verandah of the clubhouse overlooks the main playing field at Spencer Park, also named The Corporate Travel Management Stadium. You are able to enjoy a vino or two while watching the action on the field. This area is very family friendly and the menu on offer would satisfy all members of the family.

Overlooking the playing field
They have beer and cider on tap ($7), wine by the glass and soft drinks and coffee (Merlo) on offer.
My husband was very happy that there was calamari on the menu along with pizzas and pasta dishes. The menu being very simple but holding true to the Italian theme of the football club.
We would highly recommend the Calamari ($10) as it was well prepared and cooked. It melted in your mouth with just the right amount of seasoning.

Calamari
I enjoyed the simple salad ($6) with the Peking Duck Spring Rolls.($10)

Peking Duck Spring Rolls and Salad
Brisbane City Football Club was established back in 1952 and has a long tradition of sporting achievements at local, state and National levels. Its tradition of being an Italian football club continues with the uniform that the modern day players wear and the food served up in their Clubhouse Bar/Canteen.
They boast having over 500 junior players aged between 5-16 years of which our son was one several years ago.

Game on
The Brisbane City's Senior Men's team play in Brisbane's NPL (National premier league) and is coached by former Socceroo and Australian Football legend, John Kosmina. This was the team that our son's team played against last week. Sadly the result wasn't in our favour, but the food and drinks we had were.

Clubhouse Bar and Canteen Menu
The Clubhouse Bar and Canteen is opened Wednesday to Saturday nights from 5pm to late depending on the games played. Come down on either a Friday or Saturday night and you should be able to cheer on either the home team or away team from the al fresco dining area or beer garden. Or otherwise just come down and enjoy the food and drinks.
