Music and Love on a Sunday
Mercifully the world is a better place and racism and bigotry are no longer tolerated. You don't have to be Greek or Jewish to participate in this event. Everyone is welcome, and if you do decide to come along, not only will you be in for a Sunday afternoon watching a moving and dramatic love story but you will also have the chance to nibble on something deliciously Greek while sipping a welcome drink.

The Screening of Cloudy Sunday is on at New Farm Cinemas on Sunday the 6th of November. Please come along and support the joint collaboration of the Greek Film Society as well as the Jewish Community of Brisbane represented by the Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies.

It is based on the novel of George Skarbadonis – Ouzeri Tsitsanis, which is inspired by real events.

"Cloudy Sunday" is the moving story of the forbidden love between a Jewish girl and a Christian boy during the German occupation in Thessaloniki in 1942. The racist laws have been implemented and the only place to escape the hatred and inhumanity is a small club, where Vasilis Tsitsanis fills the hearts and minds of people with beautiful rebetika folk music. Despite the resistance, the persistent hunt for the Jews gradually spreads and suddenly simple choices become life- changing decisions.

In this film, we can appreciate some of the inspired music of the great Greek composer Vasilis Tsitsanis. He wrote some of his greatest music at this time and best-loved songs including the classic Sinnefiasmeni Kyriaki ( Cloudy Sunday )

The film was directed by Manousos Manousakis.

A film not to be missed and a timely reminder of how we need to be an accepting inclusive society open to all cultures, colours and creeds.
