A satire of the highest standard, Clinton the Musical critically and humorously examines the life of America's 42nd President.
Presented in the proscenium Heath Ledger Theatre, you wriggle into the comfortable chairs and strap yourself in for some side-splitting laughs ahead. The warning prompt on the ticketing website: 'Adult themes, coarse language, explicit sexual references' is a fair summary of the musical and of Bill Clinton's public life.
An all-American boy from Arkansas, Clinton can charm a nation and simultaneously charm the pants of his lady interns. The musical takes a comical look at the dual persona of one of most sensationalised Presidents in American history thanks to his impeachment for perjury and the events surrounding it, yet somehow leaving office with some of the highest presidential approval ratings of all time.
After a sell-out season on Broadway, this is the first time the musical has hit Perth theatres.
As if the ongoing political dramas of the upcoming USA election are not enough to entertain us, the hilarity of this musical will leave you mentally stimulated but also in terrible stitches of laughter. The New York Times viewed the production in a similarly favourable light: 'Unimpeachably amusing! Smartly silly, seriously impudent and sneakily compassionate.'
Directed by Adam Mitchell, the musical was scripted by talented Australian brothers, Paul Hodge and Michael Hodge.
