'Climb' is the first solo exhibition by local artist Alli Hill. It is currently showing at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
'Climb' is representative of Alli's journey as an aspiring artist and a gentle play on words around her surname. By her own admission, Alli, who is a self-taught artist, takes inspiration from her moods which constantly change with the passing of the seasons and the natural rhythms of the world around her. She is engaging and animated when quizzed about her current collection and has a restlessness about her when discussing ideas for new works.
The collection on display is made up of equal parts portraiture and abstract and with each style, there is evidence of a theme running through the work that invites the viewer into some of the artist's more persistent trains of thought. Interestingly, this is achieved without ever really detracting from the individuality of each piece, which is underscored by the shifting use of colour that, overall, makes for a fascinating visual experience.
