Clean Up Australia Day is a national event where Australians of all ages get together and help clean up our beautiful country. Rubbish causes damage to our unique environment and the wildlife that inhabits it, but you can play a part in collecting it before it's too late. Over the last 27 years Australians have helped collect over 344,000 ute loads of rubbish via Clean Up Australia Day activities.
In 2018 Clean Up Australia Day is held on Sunday March 4 , schools day is 2 March and business day is 27 February. You can search for a site to join near you on the Clean Up Australia Day website . And if you can't find one, consider registering one yourself.
In 2017 in WA plastics made up 37% of waste collected and the most common groups were food packaging and beverage containers. The most common individual items were cigarette butts, followed by plastic chip and confectionery wrappers.
The number of registered sites and volunteers in Western Australia were down in 2017 (compared to 2016) so get behind this great initiative, get some exercise and make a difference during your weekend.
