With a library, swimming pool, a cafe and even a small theatre, there's always plenty going on at Clayton Community Centre. Yet in the middle of the bustling building is a tranquil spot with a water feature, pond and places to sit.
Clayton is generally a busy place, filled with food smells, dingy little shops and people of all nationalities. The peaceful, well-kept courtyard is a welcome change of pace from the outside world.
Few venture into the courtyard, and when they do, they are usually quiet. Rarely will you encounter the screeching children which tend to populate Clayton Community Centre in the courtyard.
Unfortunately the water feature isn't always operational, but at the very least there is a small pond. Dipping into the rocky pond is not recommended, but nobody will stop you. There probably isn't even anyone around to give you a judgmental look if you decide to step in.
Go on, step in. There's nobody around to tell you not to.
Clayton Community Centre is a fantastic hidden treasure of Clayton. And there is so much to do within the Centre. The water feature is operational 95% of the time. And it is the only time it haas not been working over the last 6 months. Visitors are most welcome to come and check out and admire the water feature, we do not suggest to get into the water feature.
I have lived in Clayton for over 40 years and have often sat in the courtyard here to enjoy a coffee and muffin from the coffee shop. Clayton does not have a lot of screeching children, except at the Clayton Festival and our shops are multicultural. The author obviously does her shopping in Chadstone where everything is bright, light and new BUT without any atmosphere - just noise.
