I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.
Hop aboard the historic MV Grower for a leisurely cruise along the Yarra River. Once used for transporting produce around the market gardens of the Brisbane Waters in NSW, years of restoration by the Turner family see her plying her trade on the tourist trail. Built in 1924, MV Grower is the oldest vessel currently operating on the upper reaches of Melbourne's waterways.
The full hour-long cruise consists of a half hour in each direction. Sights such as the MCG and the Botanic Gardens can be seen on the scenic upstream cruise. Contrasting to this is the downstream cruise where the boat travels under three very low bridges and the built environment dominates the skyline.
Cruise along with the following clip to get a taste of the trip.
Cruising the Yarra River is a great activity for familiarising yourself with the city and a short but interesting commentary is provided onboard. All of the team are very friendly and helpful from the ticket seller to the captain.
The boats are also available for private hire and cruises can be tailored to meet specific needs. Departure is available from a number of locations and one could make a stylish entrance to weddings, parties or sporting events. MV Grower will seat up to 30 passengers for private events on bench seating in the saloon and on the outdoor aft deck.
