I am often tempted to take advantage of the wineries on our doorstep and visit one or more however I rarely actually go. It's as if the decadence of it or perhaps letting the laundry pile up gets the better of me and I just can't do it. A couple of weeks ago, I dragged myself home from yet another children's sporting activity which began way too early and was delighted that the weather was spectacular. You see, I had read about the Winter Reds Festival in the Adelaide Hills and managed to convince a few girlfriends to join me for an afternoon drive. I heard through a friend that Golding Wines in Lobethal was a divine spot and that not only could we have a drop of good wine, there would be great food, music and a horse drawn carriage ride. We had a destination. It was a lovely short drive from Adelaide through the hills and was well worth it. The atmosphere was relaxed and happy.

There was a small market stall at one end of the beautiful barn, a full bar at the other end and music in the middle as well as servers bustling about with trays of tasty meals and divine cheese platters. The wines on offer were fantastic; the "Rocco" Shiraz my definite favourite. We found a place in the sun, shared some cheese, drank some gorgeous wine and capped it off with a most glorious carriage ride around the vineyard.

Libby Green owns and runs "" which caters for parties, weddings, anniversaries, special occasions and is all class. Her horse is stunning and the carriage is like something out of a Bronte novel. It was the first time there for her and the queuing didn't let up. For us, it was that extra that made the "girl's day in the hills" just a little more special.

You can hire the carriage for a leisurely 45 minute ride around historic Norwood and Rose Park or through the hills of Montecute or perhaps arrange something unique and special for someone you love. She has been doing this since early 2010 and says that "Meeting people and letting others have the experience, watching kids' reactions and listening to stories from another generation who reconnect to their childhood while in the carriage" are some of the things that she enjoys the most.

If you can come up with a reason to have a carriage ride or even if you can't, grab some close friends (she can accommodate 6), pack your picnic and give Libby a ring. You will not be disappointed. You can check out her facebook page [LINK=https://www.facebook.com/ClassicCarriageDrives]here.
