A match made in Heaven
What do you get if you match Australia's best and youngest Rieslings with some of the freshest and tastiest seafood from South Australia ? Not only a match made in heaven, but also a month of indulgence at the aptly named Clare with Fresh Eyre.
The Clare with Fresh Eyre Festival is about matching the premium combination of Riesling and seafood, collectively enhancing both regional brands by bringing the freshest of the Eyre Peninsula's seafood to the heart of the Clare Valley, for all to enjoy.
This first regional collaboration between the Clare Valley and Eyre Peninsula aims to shine a light on two of Australia's premium food and wine regions and celebrates the launch of the Clare Valley's spring Rieslings, to be paired with the perfect accompaniment, fresh Eyre Peninsula seafood. Success in the 2015 event has seen the program come back again in October 2016 for its second year.
A full program of events will be held in the Clare Valley throughout the month of October, with restaurants and wineries throughout the Valley offering various experiences with highlights being Reilly's Watervale Riesling and an Eyre Peninsula Seafood Bouillabaisse available every lunch time at Reillys Wines in Mintaro.
A 7 course degustation including Riesling, Oysters, Kingfish, Lobster, Tuna, Prawns and Mussels at Paulett Wines in the beautiful Polish Hill River Valley looks to become the perfect afternoon Long Lunch on the Deck on Friday 21st October.
Possibly this may only be matched with the amazing dinner on offer that same evening on the verandah of O'Leary Walker Wines where renowned Port Lincoln Chef Tony Ford will be on hand to prepare a sumptuous seafood extravaganza that is bound to take your breath away.
Alternatively on Saturday 29th October the Metropolitan Orchestra under the stars at the Skillogalee Winery and Restaurant may provide the ultimate unique culinary and musical experience with a delicious three course meal of local produce, Eyre Peninsula Seafood and paired wines from Skillogalee while listening or dancing the night away to the tunes from the Orchestra.
And finally the showcase event where everyone is invited is the Riesling and Seafood Showcase, on again at the magnificent Sevenhill Cellars on Saturday 22nd October. Live music, entertainment and great products from the Clare Valley and the Eyre Peninsula are sure to help while the Saturday afternoon away.
Entry to most events is free (with wine and food available for purchase). Some events including the long lunches, showcase events and main dinner functions are ticketed, and bookings are highly recommended.
