Located on Tamar Street,
City Park is possibly one of Launceston's best leafy spots. It offers multiple attractions including a playground, giant chess board, conservatory, duck pond and, of course, the famous macaque primate enclosure.
Conservatory
A troop of ten Japanese macaque monkeys arrived from Japan in 1980. They've since been housed here in a specifically-designed enclosure reflecting their natural environment. They are managed and the production of offspring is controlled to limit overcrowding.
Duck pond
Pathways allow for wonderful wanders through the park while wide lawns entice visitors to simply take a break. You can enjoy a BYO picnic or cook up a storm with the onsite barbeque facilities. Entry is free, so be sure to check it out next time you're in Launceston. For further details, head to
