We stumbled on this little oasis by accident, but I can't praise this initiative of the City of Sydney enough. In the heart of the fun Festival Village is the Lawn Library. A library crammed full of books, where you can take one home to read and enjoy. There are comfy seats if you just want to relax and read awhile in the peaceful outdoor setting.[BREAK]
The books are free to take, they only ask you limit yourself to one. Obviously, you are welcome to bring some in as a book swap. There are CDs too.
Like all libraries, the Lawn Library offers the following to enjoy:
Green Villages: Grow food in small spaces Sunday 19 January 2pm. Permaculturalist Myriam Pitre talks about growing food in small spaces and on balconies.
Library Kids Fri 24 January 11.30am, Sat 25 January 11.30am. Storytime fun, with craft for the 3-5 year olds.
Twilight Storytime Tues 21 January 6pm, Aimed at families of all ages.
Library Kids January (Bilingual) Wed 22 January 11.30am - Facilitator: Pam Ho. Storytime in Mandarin and English. [BREAK]
Matthew Doyle Saturday 18 January 11.30am: A 30-40 min cultural interactive workshop on Aboriginal Music and Dance
Larry Writer and PM Newton in Conversation Wednesday 22 January 2pm. Hear the tales of Tilly Devine and the razor gangs, and others from the history of Sydney in the '20's and 30's.
Butterfly Creations Workshop Thursday 23 January 1pm. Join Alex Snellgrove from Pine Street in a children's workshop, using watercolours.[BREAK]
Late Night Library:Campfire collective (Fringe comedy) Wed 22 January 8.30pm. This is adults only!
If you have a love of books and libraries, this is the place for you. If you want to promote that in your children, there is no better place. It's close to the fun of Sacrilege, you can swing by after for a free drink of water at the Zip booth, then enjoy one of the events above, or just play chess or with the blocks. The love of reading starts with just one book...
