A spectacular festival of Christmas events in Perth’s CBD
We may not have the white snow, the cold weather or chimneys for Santa to climb down, but Perth still knows how to transform into a winter wonderland during summer. The City of Perth's Festival of Christmas will run from 18th November through to 23rd December, plus the city Christmas decorations will be on show until Thursday, 5th January 2017. Here's what's happening at this year's Festival.
Turning on the Christmas Lights The Festival of Christmas will get underway with Turning on the Christmas Lights on Friday, 18th November between 6:00pm and 9:30pm, with the lights to be turned on between 7pm and 7:45pm. This free family event will begin with a stage show before Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi and a very special guest, Santa Claus, turn on more than 100,000 Christmas lights and decorations. Be WOWED by stunning Christmas decorations throughout Perth from Friday, 18th November. From the city's biggest Christmas tree, which stands at 13 metres high and weighs a hefty 1.8tonne, to the lights lining Barrack Street, Stirling Gardens, Northbridge and the Murray and Hay Street Malls, these city decorations are sure to sparkle. Address: William Street, King Street, Murray and Hay Street Malls, Barrack Street, Stirling and Victoria Gardens in the CBD plus, James, Lake and Williams Streets in Northbridge. Christmas Carnival Forrest Place will come alive with festive fun at the free Christmas Carnival on 26th and 27th November from 10am to 4pm. The kids will love the unlimited rides, bouncy castle, games, Christmas characters and may even meet Santa himself. Address: Forrest Place, Perth. Date: 26th and 27th November from 10am to 4pm.
An Outback Christmas With our warm climate, Perth residents have special ways of celebrating Christmas, and An Outback Christmas brings Santa's Workshop to the city. During weekends from Saturday, 3rd to Sunday, 11th December from 10am-9pm, Forrest Place will be the home of this special outback Christmas event filled with crafts and entertainment. Address: Forrest Place, Perth. Date: 3rd to 11th December from 10am-9pm (activities run until 4pm.)
RAC Christmas Pageant The ultimate Christmas parade through the CBD, the Perth streets will be filled with a variety of magical festive floats, clowns, dancers, TV personalities and performers as they make their way past the crowds during the 2016 RAC Christmas Pageant on Saturday, 3rd December from 7:30pm. Address: From cnr of William Street and St. Georges Terrace to Ozone Reserve, Adelaide Terrace, East Perth. Date: Saturday, 3rd December from 7:30pm.
Perth Makers Market The Perth Makers Market is a two day event taking place on 10th and 11th December at Elizabeth Quay. Here you can find exquisite, handmade goods from local crafters, plus arts, jewellery, homewares and food and beverages. Address: Elizabeth Quay, Perth. Date: 10th and 11th December, 10am to 6pm.
Symphony in the City A major highlight on Perth's cultural calendar, Symphony in the City is an annual free outdoor concert bringing the magic of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra to the Perth masses. You will be delighted with classical favourites, hear movie soundtracks and witness jaw-dropping pyrotechnics in the spectacular finale. Address: Langley Park, Perth. Carols by Candlelight
For the first time in its 72-year history, Perth's Carols by Candlelight will be absolutely FREE to attend. Held at Langley Park on Sunday, 18th December, gates will open at 1pm and the carols will start at 7:15pm. Bring a picnic rug and snag a great spot for this iconic Perth fundraiser. There will be kids' rides, entertainment and food stalls, and local school choirs all over WA will be on stage from 4.30pm. Address: Langley Park, Plain Street, Perth. Date: Sunday, 18th December, from 1pm.
Christmas Nativity Last but by no means least, the City of Perth's Festival of Christmas will conclude with the traditional Christmas Nativity, which will tell the story of our favourite festive time of year. More than 100 performers and live animals will play their part, along with impressive costumes and plenty of Christmas carols. Address: Forrest Place, Perth. Date: Tuesday, 20th December to Friday, 23rd December from 6:30pm.
