Come To The Citrus Festival at Beaumont House (Image: NTSA)
We can always do with more festivals in Adelaide - particularly in the middle of winter. This year, the National Trust of South Australia has come to the rescue with a Citrus Festival in July. The festival is the official launch of the 2018 Australian Marmalade Awards, signalling that the competition is now open.
This is the third year of the Australian Marmalade Awards, and they get bigger and better each year. Inspired by the World's Original Marmalade Awards, the Australian Marmalade Awards comprise a cooking competition and a festival celebrating all things marmalade. The best marmalade maker will be offered the opportunity for commercial production of their recipe.
Beaumont House, Venue for the Citrus Festival 2018
At the Citrus Festival, everything is made it easy for you because Beaumont House becomes a one shop stop for all your marmalade making needs. You can find bags of locally grown citrus fruits including the finest Seville oranges, which will be available to the public for the cost of a gold coin donation.
When you collect your fruit, be sure to pick up some recipes and top tips from culinary historian, Allison Reynolds. She has a real passion for marmalade and was one of the competition judges last year. Marmalade tastings and sales will also be available during the Citrus Festival at Beaumont House.
Get Tips on Growing Oranges at the Citrus Festival
Anyone interested in growing citrus should join us for a presentation by renowned Riverland citrus growing expert, Ian Tolley OAM. I think I really need this - I just can't get rid of the curly leaves and sooty mould on my orange tree. Luckily the oranges are really juicy and still taste fantastic.
The Citrus Festival is being held on Sunday July 29 from 11am until 4pm. While you're at Beaumont House don't forget to collect a competition entry form there is a special category for cooks who use the fruit from the launch at Beaumont House. Email the master marmalade makers at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions, or for more information check out the Citrus Festival on Facebook or on the National Trust website.
