Ever fantasised about running away to join the circus? A Eumundi circus training school, offering flying trapeze lessons, bungee-trampolining, 'juggle skool', cirque-fit classes and more, might just be the ticket.

I first encountered Cirque Espace when it was based at Twin Waters Resort some years ago. Back then, I could barely get my boys off the bungee-trampolines. But after a ten year stint on the leafy grounds of the resort, the owners decided to take the leap (no net required), shifting to an alternative Sunshine Coast location - this time, in the Eumundi Square Market Courtyard.

Flying trapeze lessons remain the centrepiece of the Cirque Espace program. Performing 'the catch', which involves students letting go of the security of their perch and grabbing hold of the instructor's hands in mid-air, is achievable for many first-time flyers. (And yes, you're attached to a safety harness, with a safety net underneath, so there's no risk of serious spills.)

Very popular too are the Astro-Boing Bungee Trampolines, complete with ropes and harnesses, which allow you to leap up to eight metres into the air to enjoy a split second of pure weightlessness. It's also easy to perform somersaults or backflips while you're jumping, but a word of warning: make sure you eat after, rather than before, your session.

Other circus skills are also taught at Cirque Espace, including juggling, tight-rope walking, stilt-walking and uni-cycling. Individual and group classes (including corporate groups and after-school classes for zero-gravity kids) are available, with frequent flyer cards issued for those who can't get enough.

Open to the public four days per week (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday), and for private bookings anytime, there are no limits at Cirque Espace in terms of age or fitness level. Even participants in their 70s have soared on the flying trapeze ... so there's no excuse not to give it a go.
