My husband and I went to the Cirque Du Soleil - OVO on the weekend and it was fantastic. I'd never been to a circus before or anything similar of the sort and last night really blew my mind away. Words cannot really describe it but it was simply amazing.
The title, Ovo, is a familiar Latin root word for 'egg' and in this production, it is about the life and times of insects, where they work, eat, play and fight. The story continues on with a ladybug and a quirky insect falling in love.
All artists were in colourful costumes dressed up as various insects and at times, I couldn't quite figure out what insect they were dressed up as, but this thought only lasted a millisecond as I was more fascinated by what they were performing.
The flying trapeze act was absolutely brilliant. My heart skipped a beat every time they flew 40 feet through the air and felt a sigh of relief as they were caught. Such strength you'd have to have! There was also the banquine, which was a Russian swing and swing chair. The artists were so graceful, their movements so smooth. They were like silk! It was just breathtaking and they make it seem so effortless too. Then there was the bouncing off trampolines flying and running up an enormous wall. It looked like so much fun, making me want to do it too. It was just spectacular.
It honestly left me breathless. It's a great show for the kids as well as adults so if you've never been before, I highly recommend it. They are here for a limited season, tickets ranging from $74-$275. They also have afternoon performances available. For more information, visit their website.
