Africa's finest performers arrive in Dingley Village

Cirque Africa has arrived in Melbourne's south-east, enthralling audiences along the way. The blockbuster show is currently at the Dingley Village corner until 22nd November and will then head to the Geelong Showground's from the 16th December.

Opening night at Dingley Village was spectacular and included acrobatic routines, juggling, contortionist, African dancing and a heart pounding live band.

With 38 versatile performers and a 12-metre –high big top tent, the show is a feast for all the senses. The two-hour show teleports the audience to Africa with the use of remarkable sets and sensational costumes.

Winston Ruddle, (Papa Africa) has put his heart and soul into the show, which heralds performers from Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and Ghana. The cast enthusiasm is warm and genuine, making them endearing. Ruddle is a charismatic ringmaster and doubles as a clown, looking for audience participation. Look out if you are in the first few rows, as you may become part of the act!

Showcasing some of Africa's finest talent, Cirque Africa does not include animals in its shows. All of the performers are highly talented and give themselves over to the audience wholeheartedly. I've been to many live performances as a reviewer but this was different – the talent's sincere interest in pleasing the audience shown through brightly. To be frank, it was a breath of fresh air.

Highlight of the night was contortionist Soliana Ersie and Lazarus Mwangi. Soliana and Lazarus are incredibly flexible and unbelievably talented. Let's just say I couldn't watch at times and found myself covering my eyes with disbelief. The pair garnered the audience respect and praise within moments of entering the arena.

Special mention also goes out to the Hakuna Matata acrobats, and Icarian Games (Lil Leul and Nahon). Overall, an enjoyable evening that will leave you yearning for more!
