Circus Rio have arrived at
Glenelg in time for the winter school holidays! Bring the whole family for a taste of Rio without the hefty travel costs.
The circus showcases the extravagant costumes
Rio Carnival is known for by seducing the audience with vibrant and invigorating designs. At the beginning a samba dancer appears on a free-standing moving gold platform. The golden samba dancer atop the platform is joined by more samba dancers in equally bright feather headdresses.
The range of costumes continues throughout the circus acts including aerial acrobatics performers in glittering leotards, illusionists in sensual edgy costumes and more extravagant carnival outfits. The carnival outfits act as a performance themselves featuring large lit up skirts, jeweled headpieces, huge feather backpieces and feather fan tails (hiding derrieres).
The dramatic mood of the performance shifts between bright and happy, and dark and edgy. The performers carry strong dark energy during the illusions with the illusionist and four assistants including two men in black moving props and two women acting as living props. During the illusions some parents may want to shield younger kids from the daring tricks involving spikes.
In between circus acts the clown, dressed like a ringmaster, keeps the crowd in high spirits with ludicrous antics and juggling. The clown brings the biggest laughs of the show by performing slapstick comedy in a mime style.
The highlight of the circus are solo aerialists dangling from the circus tent top. A petite aerialist dazzles with an aerial hoop or a tall aerialist performs on the trapeze while interesting animations appear in lights on the curtains behind them. A solo performer with aerial silk perfectly times stage lighting to physical performance.
If you are engine fans, make sure the weather is dry to see FMX motorbikes do somersaulting, flips and jumps.
From costumes to lighting to talented performers, this circus is eye-catching from start to finish. The show could be more engaging with simpler and smoother transitions that avoid relying on heavy lightning or blackouts.
Language is no barrier to enjoying this show with its strong visual elements. Warm up the whole family this winter by seeing this electric performance.
