I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: coeliacfamily.blogspot.com.au
I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.
Everyone loves a circus, and the "Circus of Illusion" is sure to delight the senses of the whole family. Comprising a mix of magical illusions, acrobatics, mime and comedy with acts from international artists, this is an event not to be missed. "Australia's Got Talent" finalist Michael Boyd, performs acts of death-defying escapes, incredible levitations and ingenious illusions. There is plenty of audience participation as well. Together with the other performers, this show is two hours of incredible entertainment.
Ringmaster, Ebon Greyman (former Cirque Du Soleil) comes to the show direct from New York. His expressive, eccentric character will command your full attention while interjecting moments of comedy in between acts.
Another wonderful international act is the Spanish visual comic, Duban Nickol. His performance is not limited to comic routines which will keep you laughing but morphs into unexpected acrobatic feats. His wealth of experience as a clown and visual artist result in a captivating performance full of surprises.
A circus would not be a circus without acrobatic feats. "Circus of Illusion" brings you beautiful tissue and hoop routines. The most impressive artist of the evening for me, however, was mime artist, Stephan La Forestier who studied with the legendary Marcel Marceau. His performances were mesmerising and astonishing, with dramatic storytelling as well as an incredible statue routine.

Currently, the circus is situated on the Gold Coast at Southport, under the Big Top in Mitchell Park, where it will remain until the ninth of July. The show is presented in a fully seated, heated big top with pre-show and interval magical experiences including a Museum of Magical Arts and Magic Workshops, where kids can learn magic tricks to impress their friends. Of course, there are also drinks, hotdogs and popcorn to purchase to add to the authentic circus atmosphere. You can find out more on the website.
Tickets to the show start at $29 and there are one or two performances daily with the exception of Tuesdays. You can book tickets by calling 0455502344 or by visiting the "Circus of Illusion" Ticketek page.
