Here's an excuse for a road trip to the Gold Coast: Circus of Illusion is coming to town. Critics love it. Roll up to the big top at Mitchell Park, Southport from June 23rd to July 9th to see why. Circus of Illusion's representative told Weekend Notes, "New York ringmaster Ebon Grayman heads the show and masterfully commands 100 per cent of the audience's attention with ease – his character's eccentric, funny and brilliantly created by a truly celebrated artist."
Ebon Grayman was born and raised in New York City. He was recruited by Cirque Du Soleil for his acrobatic skills. Seven months into a three-year contract, he was offered the understudy of the principal character "Monsieur Fleur". Two years later he got the full time role of the character, which he held until 2003. Ebon also performed in Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity, where he was "The Faun" and an aerialist. He now resides on the Gold Coast and is a freelance performer and circus and gymnastics instructor.
Aside from the all important ringmaster, Circus of Illusion is bringing a troupe of of top circus artists, clowns, jugglers, mimes, magicians and illusionists to wow you under the big top. The performers hail from all around the globe. You'll be treated to acts by:
Duban Nikol was born in Colombia into a famous Spanish circus family. Naturally he and his brothers joined his parents in their spectacular act, which also featured trained chimpanzees. Later Duban Nikol and his brothers toured throughout the US, South America and Europe as The Nickol Brothers. After his brothers retired, Duban starred for 15 months in Inneuvre at the Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast, followed by engagements in Taiwan and Korea and in the theme park Europapark in Rust, Germany.
The Mime – France – Classic Mime and Magical Le Statue Act Visual illusionist, Stephan Le Forestier began his career as a child performer in a French clown company. Later he practiced his art with Marcel Marceau for many years and joined him on stage as his assistant. He then went on to form his own company Mime De Rien. Stephan has performed his incredible act in Paris' Famus show at Ceser Palace, La Nouvelle Eve and Le Lido.
The Illusionist – Australia's Got Talent Finalist with The Grandest of Illusions Internationally acclaimed illusionist and Australia's Got Talent Finalist Michael Boyd is back following his hugely successful Cabaret De Paris at Jupiters Casino, Mystique at Crown Casino and The Ultimate Vegas show. His shows feature some of the world's most impressive illusions, designed and built by the same team that work alongside the famous David Copperfield, plus, jaw-dropping escapes, levitations, transformations, special effects and mind blowing disappearances, Boyd's incredible productions will surprise and delight.
The Aerialist - Gold Coast – Grace and Beauty – Silks, Lyra and Spanish Web Elissa Cadwell started her professional career at 17 at the Moulin Rouge, Paris, and was one of six Australian dancers in the Logie nominated documentary Moulin Rouge Girls. Since returning to Australia, she's performed with Cirque Le Noir, Le Grand Cirque, Movie World, Anthony Callea and more. She's an aerialist in shows such as Lumi Air A Cirque Extraordinaire, Zircus, Solaria, Cabaret De Paris and Outback Spectacular. Elissa is also a stuntwoman, doubling for Blake Lively in The Shallows, Melissa George, and Sophie Lowe.
Circus of Illusion's representative described it as other-worldly fantasy, adding, "The show fuses circus and illusion into a two-hour experience of whimsical wonder, mystery and pure dramatic spectacle".
Circus of Illusion is captivating and enthralling entertainment for adults and kids of all ages. It's presented in a fully seated, heated big top. There will also be walk-up magical experiences such as a Museum of Magical Arts and Magic Workshops where kids can learn illusions to wow their friends and family.
