Firstly, a confession: I have a 'Things to do in Sydney' list. I lived in London for 4 years and in my last year over there I knew I was coming back to Sydney, so I began the list as a way of getting excited about moving back to Australia.

In the past year I've tried to tick a lot of things off the list, but work gets busy, social life gets hectic and weekends blur into one another. Life gets in the way and you forget why you even live in this beautiful city.

However, a few weeks ago I ticked off a visit to Watsons Bay on the ferry from Circular Quay, complete with fish & chips at 0 doyles-on-the-wharf.htm Doyles on the Wharf .



First of all, I would recommend you visit Watsons Bay on a sunny, relatively calm day – it's no fun to be on a boat in the pouring rain and wind while your stomach heaves. And it won't do anything for the fish & chips later.

Join the hordes boarding the ferry from Circular Quay Wharf 4 and grab a window seat for the fantastic view of Sydney Harbour. You'll pass by Garden Island, Double Bay and Rose Bay, and marvel at just how big Sydney really is.



Get used to queuing because once you've arrived at Watsons Bay you will join the masses of tourists and locals alike ordering fish & chips from Doyles on the Wharf. But believe me, these fish & chips are worth the wait. Nice crunchy chips with a soft middle, and fish full of flavour. Grab some space on the grass in the park and while away a good hour eating, relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere.



If you're feeling energetic afterwards, you can climb the hill to The Gap and look out over the cliffs to the ocean. Then jump on the ferry back to Circular Quay. If you have room you can even visit the Guylian Café at Circular Quay (something I confess that I did) for a superb iced chocolate. A pretty spectacular day out, for tourists and Sydney-siders, and one which will leave you with a happy glow. And perfect for a sunny winter's day outing.
