This May, Engadine Musical Society is presenting a special season of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella at Engadine Community Centre (9 shows only). Tickets are now on sale.
Originally written for television, Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical is based on the classic fairy tale of Cinderella.
Cinderella is a young woman who is oppressed by her malicious and self-obsessed stepmother and sisters. With the help of the Fairy Godmother, Cinderella is transformed into a beautiful maiden and finds her prince.
Lauren Lofberg (Cinderella) leads a talented cast, who all do a remarkable job bringing the characters of this time-honoured tale in a modern way.
President, Sue Bunt, says the show was the perfect choice for the company's May 2019 production. "We wanted to do a show that parents and grandparents could share with their families and Cinderella seemed the perfect fit."
The show features music by Rodgers and Hammerstein (Sound of Music and Oklahoma) and features great songs such as "In My Own Little Corner," "Step Sister's Lament" and "Ten Minutes Ago."
Director Michael Astill says the production aims to capture the tale's key message. "Cinderella is one of the stories that kept us daydreaming throughout our childhood and made us not want to settle down for anything less than happiness. And most importantly, it taught us to never give up on our dreams."
Cinderella will be performed at the Engadine Community Centre from May 17 to 26. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through www.engadinemusicalsociety.com.au. Early bookings are advised. For more information on the society, please visit www.engadinemusicalsociety.com.au
