Picture this: You are greeted at the door by a smiling waiter then escorted to your seat near the raging open fireplace. There are no curtains in this glasshouse restaurant, so you can see the rolling green hill that is the resting spot for golf balls when golfers wanting to practice their drive. There is a distinctive smell of garlic and fresh wood fired pizza. This is the experience at Cielo Blue located in the Plenty Views Golf Park.
In the summer, you can dine on the expansive decking but not tonight. I'm not moving far from the fire. This is not the ordinary pub meal in quality or prices. The cheapest main is a Chicken Parmagiana at $26.
Here are some of the dishes our party enjoyed:
Veal Florentine: baby veal medallions with a light Napolitano and cream sauce topped with wilted spinach and pine nuts. These were very tender and the serving was large. Served with seasonal vegetables and rosti potato balls ($ 29.90)
Pescatora pizza with a generous amount of Tiger prawns, scallops, mussels, calamari and smoked salmon and the thinnest base. This looked and tasted great ($23.90).
Wood fired duck: half duck, twice cooked served with grilled Mediterranean polenta, drizzled with an orange and campari reduction. Served with seasonal vegetables. ($32.90)
My friend ordered a special version of Risotto Cielo Blue: Risotto of chicken breast, mushrooms, sundried tomatoes and spinach but without garlic and onion and there was no problem with this adaptation ($ 24.90).
My son ordered Cabonara. I don't think you'd find a bigger serve. The spaghetti was tossed with bacon, egg and parmesan cheese in a cream sauce. My son said it was cooked perfectly ($ 23.90). Having said that, him and his friend also ordered an enormous bowl of wedges with large bowls of sour cream and chili sauce.
I chose the cannelloni over the gnocchi as I had this last time and remember the four-cheese sauce was very rich. The cannelloni was filled with spinach and ricotta with a Napolitano and pesto sauce. This was served with rocket and fresh slithers of Parmesan. ($22.90).
We had birthday cake but I noticed the desserts were $13.90 and included the expected list served at an Italian restaurant, for example, Tiramisu, Gelati basket, Sticky Date pudding and Brulee. I do love chocolate, so my pick would have been the Chocolate brownie cup filled with chocolate mousse and raspberries topped with ganache served with a raspberry sorbet.
Kids meals are $13.90, which includes a soft drink of choice and vanilla ice cream with choice of topping.
Cielo Blue hosts many a special event and provide gift vouchers. See their
website , including menus and prices.
While you are there, pop into the Plenty Views Golf Park. It boasts a multi-level driving range, a bar and lounge area to sit back, relax and enjoy the view. The boys all had a mean swing. My attempts provided some amusement to them. It looks a lot easier when watching others!
