The Literature Centre in Fremantle has something fun planned for Book Week this year. On Wednesday, August 22 they will be hosting an art exhibition devoted to four great Australian picture books from 4pm to 8pm (gates open at 3.30pm).

Those books will be:

The Incredible Freedom Machines by Kirli Saunders and Matt Ottley

The Feather by Margaret Wild and Freya Blackwood

And Somewhere Else by Gus Gordon

The highlight of the exhibition will be a selection of original artwork, reference photographs and early sketches of Shaun Tan's brand new picture book Cicada.

The exhibition will be open to people of all ages and entry will be FREE.

For the first time, works from Tan's Cicada will be displayed to the public. You will learn about the creative process that went into creating the book and there will even be a small sculpture of Cicada on display.

The Literature Centre's bookshop will be open during the exhibition. They sell Australian children's and young adult books as well as an impressive selection of original picture book artwork and prints including some from Shaun Tan's books.

The bookshop is equipped with EFTPOS facilitates.
