Since its opening in February 2004, Tribeca locals and anyone visiting this downtown neighborhood have reveled in the delicious choices of prime cuts of meats at Churrascaria Riodizio , located at 221 West Broadway in Manhattan.

For patrons curious about the venue name, Churrascaria (pronounced "choo-rah-scah-REE-ah"), refers to a restaurant offering an array of meats, such as beef, pork, chicken, lamb, etc. Riodizio is a Brazilian way of cooking and serving these meats—a tradition that dates back to the 1800s.

With a name that is apropos for a steakhouse, it may then be surprising that the first course not only whets the appetite of meat lovers, but it also offers more than enough choices to satisfy even the most discerning vegetarians.

All patrons start off with a trip to the gourmet salad bar where a generous spread of fresh vegetables and fruits await plating. Return visits to this buffet-style spread are permitted for anyone, especially for those who prefer an all-you-can-eat, all-veggie option.

On the other hand, meat lovers in your group will find round red coaster-sized chips at your table. These chips should be flipped over to display the green side once you're finished with your first course of salads, fruits and other greens, as well as your sides, such as beans and fried plantains. This action alerts waitstaff that you're ready to start with the main attractions—the meats.

Once the main course begins, you'll soon find that you have many options. In keeping with Brazilian Riodizzio tradition, the skewers of meats are brought over and presented to you in succession (much like dim sum options are carted to each table at a Chinese eatery). Watch as ribs, sausage links, and expertly sliced thin pieces of meats fill your plate.

Bigger cuts of meats are carted over to your table and carved on wooden boards.

The staff will keep making their rounds with the succulent meat entrees as long as your coaster-sized chip is green. So enjoy your all-you-can-eat portions of meats and the exemplary knife skills. Then turn the chip to red, and await the carts of decadent dessert items (not included in your prix-fixe option) that will arrive at your table.

Should you happen to be in the Theater District, stop by the original location, Churrascaria Platformia at 316 West 49th Street.

Anyone who's had the pleasure of dining at either branch will agree that guests leave quite full and satisfied with the heaping and unlimited portions of their delectable meal, and the staff's professional service—justifying the fixed price for each adult and child in your party. It's well worth it to experience a bit of Brazilian culture, especially when you're with your favorite fellow carnivores.
