I'm a Fellow; Talk to Me – 50 Years of Churchill Trust Fellowships

Join in and celebrate 50 years of the Churchill Trust. Find out how pattern designers, musicians and storytellers help make up the eclectic family of Churchill Fellows and how their travels have enriched our society.

Sponsored by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and hosted by ABC Radio's Richard Fidler alongside 4MBS general manager Gary Thorpe, I'm a Fellow; Talk to Me , is being staged at the Turbine Platform, Brisbane Powerhouse, 119 Lamington Street, New Farm on Saturday, 28 November, 2015 starting at 5.00pm.

Tickets to this event are completely FREE but you will need to register to make sure you have a seat. Register online here .

As Winston Churchill famously quipped, "My tastes are simple: I am easily satisfied with the best." So let your tastes be satisfied with an afternoon of the best couch talks and entertainment provided by the best of the best.

The event promises an afternoon of conversations with Fellows who will entertain and inspire you. Eight of Queensland's best, brightest and most passionate people, all Churchill Fellows, will deal with some very probing questions asked by their fellow Fellow Richard Fidler, a man renowned for getting people talking. 4MBS general manager Gary Thorpe will then turn the tables and interview Fidler himself

I'm a Fellow; Talk to Me is a rare opportunity for you to hear stories from Queensland Churchill Fellows who come from varied backgrounds and will divulge their insights, adventures and achievements. You will also learn how you can join them and become a Fellow yourself.

Come and enjoy the conversation among notables such as:
  • storyteller Meg Philp;
  • conservationist and environmentalist Hugh Lavery;
  • sculptor Rhyl Hinwood;
  • jazz performer, composer and educator Andrew Butt;
  • costumier Emma Shakes; and
  • founder of indigenous education group, Yalari Waverley Stanley.

  • Each member of the discussion is recognised as a leader in their field and has travelled the globe to further their passion and make a difference in their respective worlds. Come and be amazed at the insight and acuity on show when brilliant minds get together.

    But the afternoon is not all talk and no action. You'll hear some very irreverent trivia about Winston Churchill, be entertained with great live music and take your chances in a special Churchill Lucky Dip. This is going to be a full-on and fun-filled afternoon with something for everyone.

    In amongst all the exciting tales of those who have gone before, you will also be given the opportunity to see how to become a member of this august body. Churchill Fellow, Matt Shepherd, who is involved in selecting future Fellows, will speak about what the Trust looks for in potential fellows.

    The Churchill Trust provides the opportunity for Australians to travel overseas to conduct research into areas of study not readily available in Australia in their chosen fields. The Trust rewards proven achievement of talented and deserving Australians by providing these opportunities in the pursuit of excellence for the enrichment of Australian society.
