Churchill Island via Phillip Island

The wondrously delightful Churchill Island is located off Phillip Island - yes that is correct, an island off another island! Access to Churchill Island is via a short one-way bridge and once you cross that bridge, you truly feel that you have stepped back in time to the 1800s.
In keeping with the era, in which the original homestead was built (circa 1870s), Churchill Island gives the visitor an extraordinary experience, with the island dedicated to the days of olde.
The original homestead, as well as several other cottages, are open for you to walk through and view. They are amazingly well preserved for their age and give great insight into the living conditions of the past.
The gardens have an abundance of beauty to wander through and admire at your own pace.
There are several scheduled demonstrations which are given throughout the day:
10:30am - Blacksmithing
(Art created by on-site blacksmiths is for sale in the gift shop)
2.00pm - Cow milking
2:30pm - Sheep shearing
2:45pm - Working dogs
3:00pm - Whip cracking
At the time of our visit, the cost to visit Churchill Island was priced at $13.50 for an adult, $6.75 for children (4-15 years), or a $33.75 family pass, which includes two adults and two children. Pensioner discounts are available by showing your relevant card.
However, we ordered a four parks pass through the
visitphillipisland.com information which gave us entry to the Penguin Parade, the Koala Conservation Reserve and the Antarctic Journey at the Nobbies as well as Churchill Island. This pass was terrific value!
The Island also has some superb walking trails, including the Churchill Island loop which is a 4.5kms round trip, taking an estimated 2 hours and is classed as a moderate walking track.
In addition to all of the wonder of yesteryear which Churchill Island contains, there is also a very modern cafe which has both indoor and outdoor seating available. We loved sitting outside admiring the garden view with the sea in the distance, and I must say the meals and drinks we enjoyed during our visit were fabulous. We were also extremely lucky to have the added delight of being visited by one of the exquisite resident peacocks!
If you wish to visit the cafe only, entry is free and can be accessed via the well-stocked gift shop.
