Chroma / SALA Festival
Urban, fine art, abstract, jewellery, sculpture and textile creations are all united by the 'flow of colour' at
Kuoni Creative' s SALA exhibition, 1 – 31 August, Monday – Saturday 10am - 5pm. "We only opened in December 2015, so we are very excited to be holding our first SALA event," explains Corina Kuoni, Founder & Director Kuoni Creative. "We came up with the idea of doing something colourful and asked our network of artists if they wanted to participate – and we had a great response."
The eight artists' colourful creations showcase a wide variety of talent under one roof. Visitors are greeted by Jacqueline Weber's stunning glasswork, which includes boldly coloured necklaces created from fused glass. Fusing glass literally means melting glass together, and Jacqueline likens it to patchwork – taking a piece of coloured glass, cutting it up, piecing it together with other glass and fusing it into a new piece.
Using different combinations of oil, acrylic, gouache and metal leaf, Mark Davis' work will evoke powerful emotions. His work is all the more remarkable as the artist has a deteriorating eye condition.
Inspired by autumn colours, Tareena Hatton's abstract art is predominantly acrylic on canvas. Her spontaneous use of vivid colour is clearly reflected in these SALA pieces.
Another exhibiting abstract artist, Tamara J Whittaker says each piece of her art has been empowered with natural energy and is created purposefully to bring life, energy, healing and love into your homes.
Using recycled glass from bottles and other objects, Julia Frahm's creations are inspired by colour and texture. Her glass jewellery is unique and the colourful beads have been strung together in striking combinations.
Lyn Davis works predominantly in mixed media. As a woman on the autism spectrum, she translates the experience to give greater depth and insight into her strikingly original creations.
Inspired by an array of elements including geometry, nature and crop circles, Zoe Warburton loves garden design and likes to enhance this environment with her creations. After messing around in a blacksmith's workshop one day, Zoe fell in love with the diversity the material had to offer, and she has combined steel with resins to give her sculptures a unique element.
And don't forget to add a bit of colour of your own to this rich and vivid SALA event. Local artist Azzurro has designed an intricate mural where you can release your inner artist by choosing a texta and colouring on Kuoni Creative's front window.
"Kuoni Creative is about bringing people together," explains Corina Kuoni, Founder & Director Kuoni Creative. "We want to inspire and create interaction with the community. It's about having fun and people getting to know what's in their own back yard."
As well as holding its own exhibitions throughout the year, Kuoni Creative encourages artists to use the space for their own exhibitions or workshops. Recent workshops include polymer clay workshop and an Art and Meditation course. Kuoni also has a lovely gift shop with an array of unique creations to suit any budget.
