FREE events are always so helpful when many of us spend an awful lot buying those Christmas presents each year!

This event is no exception and it will be all about Christmas cheer for all to hear! It will be held on 15th December 2018 at Langley Park in Perth.



Why not light your candles and get your jingle bells ready for a night that is sure to be filled with Christmas fun, sing-alongs and classical music hits. And as a finale, there will be an amazing fireworks show on afterwards under the stars.



The renown West Australian Symphony Orchestra is once again absolutely delighted to join with Lotterywest, City of Perth and Variety - the Children's Charity WA to present Perth's largest outdoor Christmas concert, [b]Christmas Symphony.**



This is indeed fortunate as Carols by Candlelight had been cancelled as the major sponsor had pulled out. It has now been given a lifeline, as well as a new name, with sponsors rallying to the call to save this renown Christmas event.



Last year's Carols by Candlelight dented Variety WA's coffers after it had to be cancelled due to severe storms on the day. With the newly named event, Christmas Symphony, the yearly outdoor celebration of classical music will be the start of summer with this new and extended program!

It will be hosted by Channel 9's Louise Momber and Michael Thomson, and [b]Christmas Symphony** will feature a complete program of classical music hits and everyone's favourite Christmas carols.

Families can all sing-along to Jingle Bells and Silent Night while at the same time enjoying the overture to Bernstein's Candide, Jupiter from Holst's The Planets and Tchaikovsky's ever-popular 1812 Overture.

This charismatic evening will feature more than 150 performers on stage including West Australian Symphony Orchestra, WASO Chorus, Variety choir and some special guests including, of course, Santa.

Why not come along and bring a picnic to have before the show, which will be held at Langley Park from 5.00 pm. The full program for the evening will be announced on Wednesday 5th December 2018.



Langley Park will be lit up and it will be a great FREE night for the whole family.

[b]West Australian Symphony Orchestra** or WASO as it is often referred to, is Western Australia's largest and busiest performing arts organisation. They regularly put on some stunning events for the people of Perth, and indeed, of Western Australia.

WASO is a not-for-profit company that thrives on the enthusiasm, passion and support of much of our Perth community. They bring about events and programs right across the State in order to stimulate learning and participation in a cultural life.

They are definitely advocates for the great classical musical heritage and they are passionate leaders in bringing about performances of new music by leading Australian and international composers.

The West Australian Symphony Orchestra is currently celebrating 90 years!

It all began in September of 1928 with a performance at The Queens Hall on William Street, under the leadership of the popular conductor Harold Newton. There were 32 professional musicians there and they presented a concert that included Perth's first ever performance of Dvorak's Symphony No. 9.

They have gone from strength to strength and now employ around 82 full-time musicians who enrich the lives of West Australians.
