Fed Square , corner Flinders and Swanston streets, are
launching Christmas in a big way with a Launch on
Fri 29 Nov 2024 from 6.30pm to late. After the launch, the festive season will continue to be celebrated, right up
till 31 Dec 2024. Bring the family and catch all things Christmas at the Swanston St Forecourt, The Atrium, and the Main Square, and celebrate the first lighting of the City's 17.5 metre Christmas Tree, the Opening of Christmas Square and the launch of the City of Melbourne's Christmas Festival, with face painting, performance, music and Christmas Magic. A free celebration, Christmas Square is lighting up with 100% wind-powered Christmas cheer. Following is the launch event program for the night of 29 Nov.
6.30pm – Festivities commence, with free face-painting, roving entertainment & a merry DJ set
7.10pm – Experience an As Camp as Christmas choir performance by Consort of Melbourne
7.30pm – another merry DJ set
8pm – The Huxleys roving performance
8.10pm – Experience a camp as choir performance by Consort of Melbourne
8.30pm – Official proceedings commence on stage
8:55pm – Lumiere from the Beauty & the Beast musical welcomes you to Be Our Guest with a special performance
9pm – The Christmas Tree lights up!
Koorie Krismas is back, with a First Peoples makers’ market and performances, presented by Koorie Heritage Trust Inc
As Camp as Christmas also returns, curated by The Huxleys
Free Christmas Outdoor Cinema returns in the lead-up to Christmas, presented in partnership with United Airlines
Enjoy late-night shopping for creative gift-giving and free gift-wrapping on December 12 + 19, where the ACMI Shop, NGV design store, shopKHT and the new pop-up Murran Melbourne store will be open till 9pm
A festive-decked Atrium will showcase Christmas Creatures, an installation by The Huxleys, with Christmas Choirs and performances

The much loved
Koorie Krismas is back, celebrating First Nations artists, performers, and makers. It's a free, fun-filled day for the whole family. The program includes live music, comedy and dance performances, featuring a line-up of incredible First Nations talent. Emceed by Lady Lash, enjoy a variety of performances from the Djirri Djirri Dancers, Pirritu Duo, Barry Gilson, ENOKiCurry, Randals Dad, DJ PGZ, Cerulean, the Ngargee Dancers and more. Shop for unique gifts from local First Peoples artists and makers such as Clothing The Gaps, Haus of Dizzy & Haus of Ziggy Lee, Ilan Style, Kevin Williams, Kinya Lerrk Pty Ltd, Mabu Mabu, Mana Dreaming, Marbeangrook Designs, N’Dene Riley, Wiimpatja Nhuungku Designs, Wunyun, Yulaa-li, with more to be announced. Make your own wreath at the drop-in workshops, or customise a Krismas Kard and make your own badge. Koorie Klaus will also be making an appearance to top off the festivities.

Mon 16 to Mon 23 Dec 2024 (16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23 Dec; and it does skip 19 Dec) from 6pm, except on Mon 23 Dec 2024 when it's from 8pm. In given date order, the films to look forward to are -
The Polar Express (2004); The Santa Clause (1994); Elf (2003); Meet Me in St. Louis (1944); The Apartment (1960); The Shop Around the Corner (1940); and
It's a Wonderful Life (1946).
Keep in mind that
As Camp As Christmas will only be performed on
Fri 20 Dec from 6-10pm at the Main Square. A cabaret of comedy, dance and performance by The Huxleys, it'll feature a lineup of sensational stars to make your yuletide gay. The timeframe given includes the film screening of 'Meet Me in St Louis', followed by the show by the Huxleys.

Make a festive wreath from native foliage (Fri 29 Nov 6pm); your own macrame Christmas tree (Fri 6 Dec 6pm); create a gingerbread house ornaments (Fri 13 Dec 6pm) from Polymer Clay; and fashion fancy festive jewellery and accessories (Fri 20 Dec 5pm) from polymer clay.
