If you want to get into the spirit of Christmas with your little kids, it might be worth a trip to the local video store! Here are ten Christmas movies you can watch with your kids.



1. ELF
Starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel
Rated PG

Buddy who was raised as an elf, but is actually human. He leaves the North Pole in search of his real dad and ends up causing all sorts of chaos in New York.



2. HOME ALONE
Starring Macaulay Culkin and Joe Pesci
Rated PG

Oops, eight-year-old Kevin's family leave for their Christmas holidays, but accidentally leave him behind. He's left protect his home against two less-than-bright burglars with a series of booby traps.



3. ARTHUR CHRISTMAS
Starring James McAvoy and Hugh Laurie
Rated PG

The presents have been delivered but a child's been missed! Oh no. In this animated tale, Santa's youngest son Arthur goes on a mission to save Christmas.



4. POLAR EXPRESS
Starring Tom Hanks
Rated PG

The animation in this movie is incredibly lifelike because it's motion-action computer-animated. The story has been adapted from the book of the same name and it's about a young boy who's searching for the spirit of Christmas and boards a magical train.



5. FRED CLAUS

Starring Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti
Rated PG

Fred is Santa's shady, older brother who ends up in jail and calls on his sibling for help. In return, Fred has to go to the North Pole to help make toys for Christmas.



6. THE GRINCH
Starring Jim Carrey
Rated PG

The Grinch is a character created by Dr Suess and this movie is a big-budget remake of the cartoon about the mean, green creature who's mission is to steal Christmas.



7. MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET
Starring Richard Attenborough and Mara Wilson
Rated PG

Here's an update on the classic Christmas tale from the 40s. It's got the John Hughes touch and is about a six-year-old girl who doesn't believe in Santa.



8. HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK
Starring Macaulay Culkin and Joe Pesci
Rated PG

Kevin is on his own again. This time he accidentally gets on a plane to New York while his family are headed to Miami. He runs into his old enemies again too.



9. THE SANTA CLAUSE
Starring Tim Allen
Rated PG

Santa falls off a roof to his death and Scott Calvin must finish delivering the presents... and become the new Santa. He's not impressed at first.



10. GREMLINS
Starring Zach Galligan, Pheobe Cates
Rated PG

This one's not about Santa or the elves, but it's set at Christmas time. Billy gets an unusual pet as a present. It's a cute, furry little creature that comes with three special care rules: no water, no daylight and no food after midnight.

Home Alone is the best. I watched it again and again as a kid. The second is my favourite. There was this one scene that I had memorised completely.
