As I write this in October, Christmas is just a hazy mirage in the distance - something that doesn't require any thought just yet, but you can see it there looming. Someone however, forgot to tell this to the supermarket executives who decided that mince pies, Christmas trees and tempting chocolate goodies should be lining the shelves three months before Christmas! Three months! Although this may be excessive, one thing about Christmas that does need planning ahead is the all-important Christmas Lunch. If you would like to book into a restaurant around the city, then you need to get in early to get a table at somewhere that you will really enjoy. The following are 15 delicious Christmas Lunch options which range from fine dining to fish & chips - and everything in between!
1/ Buvette Bistro and Wine Bar is a fine dining restaurant located inside the 5 Star Hotel Realm in Barton. On Christmas Day they will be having an extravagant feast with charcuterie, seafood buffet, carving station, salads and desserts for $180 per person. 2/ Burbury Terrace restaurant is located inside the Burbury Hotel and Apartments and is part of the 5 Star Hotel Realm precinct. On Christmas Day they will be hosting their own extravagant feast for $165 per person, with sweeping city views from their rooftop windows. See here for details.
3/ Pod Food restaurant in Pialligo (near Canberra Airport) will be having a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings for $170 per person, or $240 with wine. Kids will have their own menu for $80 per child. See here for details and booking, closer to Christmas.
4/ The Boat House in Barton will be delivering a fine dining 6 course degustation menu, with stunning views over Lake Burley Griffin. Let Chef John Leverink and his team "wow" you with their cuisine, costing $190 per adult and $90 per child, food only. See here for details and how to book.
5/ Rydges Capital Hill will be having a Gourmet Seafood & Traditional Roast Buffet on Christmas Day, for $170 per adult, $95 for teens and $60 for children aged 6 -12. Under 5's are free. Diners will enjoy fresh prawns, shucked Coffs Harbour oysters, Morton Bay Bugs, smoked salmon, honey glazed ham on the bone, stuffed roast turkey, roast lamb and a gourmet dessert buffet. 6/ Redsalt Restaurant at the Crowne Plaza will be celebrating Christmas Day with a delicious buffet which includes seafood, salads, turkey, ham, desserts and more. The price is $185 per adult, $99 for teens and $59 per child aged 6 -12. Children 6 and under are free. See here for details.
7/ Hotel Kurrajong in Barton will be hosting a Christmas Day Buffet Lunch including a mouth watering roast carvery with all the trimmings plus an ocean fresh seafood extravaganza. There will also be a festive themed beverage package including house beers, whites, reds, sparkling wine, soft drinks, luxury teas and freshly brewed coffee. 8/ Canberra Southern Cross Club Woden will be having two celebrations on Christmas Day. The Golden Grille will be having traditional Christmas fare and a visit from Santa at for $86 per adult and $36 for children. Upstairs in the Corrina Ballroom they will also have a sumptuous Christmas buffet for $123 for adults and $53 for children. 9/ Canberra Southern Cross Clubs Jamison and Tuggeranong will both have a traditional festive three course lunch for $86 for adults and $36 for children, with a visit from Santa for the kids. See here for details.
10/ The Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club in Yarralumla will be having two celebrations - a special Christmas Day lunch in their lakeside marquee for $150 per person and $65 for children, as well as a Christmas Day lunch inside the Yacht Club restaurant, with a different menu for $160 and $65 for children. 11/ Canberra Southern Cross Cruises - MV Southern Cross is a sightseeing cruise boat that leaves from the Yarralumla Yacht Club, above. The Christmas Day cruise will be having their own celebrations with the same menu as the Yacht Club restaurant, whilst on a scenic cruise on Lake Burley Griffin. * If you would like to keep it simple this Christmas (or the turkey has burnt to a crisp and you need a Plan B!) Snapper on the Lake fish and chips at the Yacht Club will be open from 11am.

12/ Marble and Grain restaurant is located inside the Avenue Hotel in Braddon. This year it will be opening Christmas Day with a 5 course lunch and a glass of champagne on arrival for $139. See here for details.
13/ Benchmark Wine Bar in the city will be having their own gourmet Christmas Day celebration with champagne on arrival and a delicious set menu for $125 per person. See here for details.
14/ Monster Kitchen and Bar, underneath Hotel Hotel in the Nishi Building in Acton, will be putting on a 9 course shared Christmas lunch for $170 and matching wines is an extra $65. 15/ Muse is a restaurant and contemporary bookstore located inside the East Hotel in Kingston. This year it will be hosting a Christmas Day lunch with a shared menu and a complimentary glass of Tasmanian NV Pirie Chardonnay Pinot Noir cuvée on arrival. The cost is $90 per person.
