Christmas Lights in Ashbury

One of my favourite parts of the festive season is the opportunity to enjoy houses beautifully decorated with
Christmas lights , nativity scenes, Santa clauses of every size and shape and reindeer that can actually move (mechanically).
If you're like me and enjoy admiring Christmas lights, then make sure you head to Second Street in Ashbury where every house partakes in this festive effort. There is a festive cheer in the air as you stroll down Second Street on a warm summer's night, taking in every house's unique theme of decorations. It is a very family and pet friendly environment, and you'll often find an ice cream truck parked around the corner to draw in the crowds.
Some of the houses are decorated with the usual red and green lights with a Santa hanging off the fence or sleighing mid-air with his reindeer. Several houses have taken on an all white theme of lights, reminding me of a white Christmas that we'll never see in this part of the world. Some houses have a sense of humour in their approach to decorating, which added to the fun and variety on this cheery street.
There is also a house owned by a lovely old couple who are collecting donations for a charity called HOPE (Hope for Cambodian Children Foundation Inc). HOPE aims to give a future to Cambodian children affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Speaking to the lovely lady filled me with warmth as they have generously invested time, money and effort to decorate their house for strangers to enjoy, and also turned it into a good cause.
She stands outside her house, greeting passers-by and handing out sweets and lollies to everyone who stops to admire the lights. What kind and giving souls they are.
Christmas is not far away now and I hope you find some time to stop by Second Street in Ashbury to make this festive season more memorable.
