Christmas in July seems to be a huge phenomenon in and around Melbourne so I thought it was time I took notice to see what's happening around town.

The Dandenong Ranges seems to bursting at the seams with restaurants and activities offering Christmas in July themed meals.

The Cuckoo is a Bavarian (German) themed smorgasbord style dining experience that will celebrate its 5 millionth customer in June 2014. Their Christmas in July festivities include traditional Christmas fare, carols, a visit from Santa and much more. To book or to find out more click here .

The iconic Tram Car Restaurant is hosting a 5 course Christmas in July luncheon on each Sunday between 1pm-3:30pm during July. Join the festive cheer on board the decorated tram with an inclusive food and beverage package for $121 pp. Be quick to book to avoid disappointment. I can highly recommend the Tramcar Restaurant from previous dinners on board the tram.

The Mornington Peninsula is a bit more limited with options but here's what I could find:

The Pig and Whistle on Purves Rd in Main Ridge ( a few kilometres from the top of Arthurs Seat) is having a traditional Christmas in July feast by the fire on Saturday 26th of July. This english style pub in the countryside hasn't always had the best reviews but with new owners it will be interesting to see if the improvements made has changed reviewers minds?

Don't forget Santa's Place in Mornington for the best decorations, trees ( real or fake ) or a bite to eat from the Christmas inspired cafe, there's also a playground for the kids.

Further afield is Sovereign Hill's Christmas in July festival between the 28th of June - 13th of July. For a full rundown of events and activities during the two week festival click here .
