The festive season is upon us and the beautiful Auburn Botanic Gardens are turning into a Christmas wonderland of free fun for the whole family. An open air cinema, Christmas entertainment, activities and a light display are just some of what you will see on the evening of Saturday 9 December.
Kicking off at 5pm, an Elves Playground provides children with the opportunity to decorate their own gingerbread man, make Christmas wind chimes, create a Christmas card and sit with Santa for a photo. Christmas decorations abound and you can even pop a letter to Santa in the mail.
Christmas carols and songs will get you further into the Christmas spirit with the help of the Duck River Band, the City of Holroyd Brass Band, Revival Christian Church Band and the Salvation Army Band.
Plenty of food trucks are at your disposal serving up dinner and dessert. There's El's fried chicken, Mr Kernal's corn and tornado potato, and Mr Shish's traditional Turkish street foods on the savoury side whilst the Gelato Brioche Dessert Truck brings sweet desires, such as gelato brioche burgers, gelato waffles and gelato donuts. Pull'n Shots bring you that all important coffee, cake and coffee in a cone.
A glittering Christmas light display will have you in awe from 8.15pm whilst the outdoor cinema screening of the warm-hearted animated elf story Saving Santa at 8.30pm will allow adults and children to have a few laughs and chill out at the end of all the activity.
Car parking is available at the gardens and in surrounding streets, however, this can fill up quickly and public transport is recommended. A free shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes from both Auburn and Merrylands train stations to the gardens and back.
