Christmas in the City is a celebration of the festive season in the heart of the city to raise money for their Red Nose appeal. In previous years the city has come to life with fairy light tunnels for the kids to walk through, however in 2016 this will be replaced with fairy lights over two markets held each night. There will be the Handcrafted and Gift Market under a canopy of fairy lights, as well as a themed Foodie Market which is also lit up with fairy lights, with entry by small donation to each. There will be over 80 delicious food stalls to choose from as well as live entertainment, dachshund races, a petting zoo and Santa photos! The city will be a magical wonderland all the way to Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Concert kicks off the celebrations on December 16th under the towering Christmas Tree in the Civic. The headline act will be the popular Shannon Noll, renowned for his time on "Australian Idol" (2003), where his true Aussie style and huge rock voice endeared him to the country. Also watch Lah-Lah and her Big Live Band and The Brindabella Chorus, as well an appearance from Santa himself! After the concert, why not stay to do some Christmas shopping at the markets and then enjoy some tasty delights from the Burgers, BBQ and Beer Market. See here for details of the Christmas Concert.

The Handcrafted and Gift Market will be held each night between 16th - 24th of December at Ainslie Place, with an entry fee of a donation to the SIDS Red Nose appeal. These markets, as well as the foodie markets, begin at midday and finish at 10pm each evening. As you shop for Christmas presents at the variety of handmade and handcrafted Christmas stalls, enjoy the fairy lights overhead which create a magical, special quality to the shopping experience. Stalls will include some of Canberra's best designers with a range of unique gifts that you won't be able to find anywhere else. See here for details of the Handcrafted and Gift Markets.
Burgers, BBQ and Beer Market will be held on the 16th and 17th of December, with tasty food stalls, live music and entertainment under the fairy lights. The BBQs will fire up and the smells alone will invite you in to try some delicious fare at this event, which is sure to be a popular attraction after the Christmas Concert. If you enjoy these markets, why not come back each night to try something new. See here for the details of the Burgers, BBQ and Beer Market.
The Street Food Markets will be held on the 18th and 19th of December, where you can transport your taste buds to Asia, Europe, Oceania and Africa with a range of street food to enjoy. Taste your way around the world and try food from different countries, or stick closer to home and sit back with an Aussie meat pie. If you enjoy the Multicultural Festival each year, then you will enjoy browsing the markets each night, trying a few different options for dinner and dessert. There will also be an entertainment program which includes Dachshund and Pug Races. See here for details of the Street Food Markets.

Christmas in the City is an enjoyable way to celebrate the lead up to Christmas with family, friends and loved ones in a night out in the city. With gift shopping and food stalls all within walking distance to each other, the Civic will be bustling and alive with Christmas spirit. As well as providing a magical backdrop to the city, this event also raises funds for a charity that is close to may hearts, especially at this time of year. With 9 nights of Christmas markets and street food planned in the Civic, you can get all your Christmas shopping finished in one place and return each night for the food markets.
