I'm a qualified UK lawyer, who emigrated to Australia in May 2012. I have three small children and we've been getting to know Brisbane and making it our home.

Being a Pom, the concept of Christmas in July is a bit alien to me, but as we enter winter (and I must have acclimatised as this year it feels cold to me rather than like a warm English summer), I keep experiencing the feelings of excitement that I normally feel during the approach to Christmas in the UK as it becomes cold, the nights draw in and Christmas fever grows. But, of course, it isn't Christmas, but rather winter time, and suddenly Christmas in July makes sense to me.
I have to say that I struggled with my first warm, sunny Christmas here. It left me in a state of confusion and everything seemed topsy turvy! A warm new year, however, I could get used to. No January blues when the sun is shining!
My family and I have, therefore, decided to jump on board with Christmas in July this year and, hopefully this way, I won't attach as much importance to Christmas Day itself and the fact it is in the middle of summer.
Here is my selection of what is on offer in and around Brisbane for Christmas in July 2013:
Abbey of the Roses has become famous for its Christmas in July events held in Warwick, just 90 minutes south of Brisbane.
On Saturday, 13, 20 and 27 July 2013 from 6-10pm, this venue offers a fun, interactive night and, with temperatures sometimes below zero at this country location, you will experience a traditional, cold Christmas in July.
The celebrations include a three course traditional dinner, four hour beverage package of beer, wine and soft drinks, Christmas trivia, music, secret Santa plus it nearly always snows at the Abbey for the Christmas in July nights!
This beautiful venue in a stunning location offers a dine or stay and dine package and a veritable 'Christmas' treat.
Winter Christmas & Christmas in July
The Winter Christmas period runs from 1 June 2013 to 31 August 2013 and offers an incredible banquet, extremely well thought out and presented by the venue's executive chef. The mouth watering menu includes all the Christmas trimmings, including mulled wine, roast turkey and Christmas pudding.
This feast is served before a roaring fire to evoke a traditional Christmassy feel.
