New to Canberra, I love exploring this city and the secrets that it holds with my family.
Three HUGE weekends in the city with food & family fun
Christmas in Glebe Park is a new event for 2017, hosted by the City Renewal Authority and partnered with the Red Nose appeal. Over 3 huge weekends, between 8th December and Christmas Eve, Glebe Park in the centre of the city will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland with a canopy of Christmas lights, a Christmas forest of live trees, food markets, pop-up bars, kid's activities, roving carollers, performers, outdoor movies and more. Glebe Park is located on the main Bunda Street that runs through the city, so it is the ideal place to hold the event and easily accessed by public transport, locals and tourists to the city. Over the course of the event, charity partner Red Nose will have volunteers collecting donations for their worthy cause.
With so many things to do over 3 weekends - one visit will not be enough!

EVERY WEEKEND BETWEEN 8th - 24th DECEMBER
Glebe Park will have a canopy of Christmas lights between 8th December and Christmas Eve, with the lights getting turned on at 5pm every night of the week. Visitors can walk through the park during the week and enjoy the magic of the park lit up for Christmas. The food markets and Christmas festivities, however, will be held over 3 weekends:
Each weekend, make sure you check out the Christmas forest of 65 live Christmas trees, stop by Santa for a photo and enjoy various kid's activities (see further down this article for more details). Canberra favourite Capital Brewing Co. will have a pop up bar set up under the trees and The Food Feast will be held each weekend with a wide range of delicious market stalls to buy lunch or dinner (and dessert!) - and then go back for more! Vendors include Kokomos, San Churro, Tikka Stand, Pimp My Chimney, Hello Hanoi and more. See here for listings - with different vendors each weekend.
Bend and Beers is a joint venture between Capital Brewing Co and Joga Yoga, so exercise and beer enthusiasts can enjoy a yoga class - followed by a beer! There will be two classes to book into - the first class is on Friday, 15th December at 5:30pm, so you can go straight from work for a yoga class and social beer. No experience is necessary - just take a yoga mat and a sense of fun! Tickets cost $30 - see here for details. The second class is on Sunday, 17th December, at 2pm - see here for details.
Kids will not be bored at Christmas in Glebe Park! On the first weekend, the Boogie Buddies will be entertaining the littlies early on Friday evening, then on Saturday and Sunday (9th/ 10th December) inflatable rides will be blown up for the kids between 12pm - 6pm. There will be a Nerf Arena, crazy maze and 4 inflatable slides and jumping castles! Tickets cost $5 per ride - see here for details and age restrictions.
On the second weekend, Dendy's Outdoor Cinemas will be set up in the park, with a showing of Elf on Saturday, 16th December and Home Alone showing on the Sunday, 17th December. Take a picnic rug and enjoy these family movies under the stars. The movies start at 8pm, with a donation to the Red Nose appeal appreciated. On the third weekend kids activities will include free donkey rides and a petting zoo. See the Christmas in Glebe Park Facebook for all the latest details.
Christmas in Glebe Park will be 3 weeks of festive celebrations in the city for all ages - don't miss it!
